Actually, the statistics are that 53% of Australians pirate, and as we mentioned in our blog, 34% (or 1 in 3) Australians are ‘ACCIDENTAL PIRATES’. The research revealed that a third of Australians – 34% - said they see piracy as stealing or theft but they regularly do it by burning, buying or downloading illegal or unauthorized copies of films or TV programs. In other words 1 in 3 Australians participate in something that they don’t agree with. To describe this disconnection between people’s actions and beliefs, we coined the phrase ‘Accidental Pirate’.

Hi,
I understand your plight, I own a large collection of Dvd's from various regions. Not one pirated copy amongst them. I must be honest I have become fed up of all this region coding business so much that I decided not to upgrade to Blu-ray. If you buy them legite the you should be able to play them. Do away with region coding then maybe I will invest more. Your punishing your bread and butter public not the pirates.

Attache: You are a giant, unrealistic, douche.

Even if Geordieguy wanted to comment on your post (which, I'd hazard a guess he wouldn't) he couldn't.

For someone who seems to profess knowledge of IP, you certainly know bugger all about confidentiality and employee agreements.

Companies have social media policies; and if they don't, they're probably even worse in this regard.

*Anything* he posts in relation to talking about the company he works for could land him very easily into not working for that company anymore.

The smart move is to not play your game.

You want Ciscos view on Intellectual Property on their devices in juxtaposition to copyright in the film industry? contact their media wing.

I work for a multinational company that I don't agree with on a lot of things.

I still need to pay bills, and I have my own damn opinions that sure as hell may not line up with theirs.

Tell me Attache, do your views on everything line up with your employers?

Who is your employer? I mean, after all "in the interests of transparency" we should all know your interests.

*rolleyes*

Why are you trying to act as though you speak for the industry? Those stats you publish are more than misleading. If you say that 1 in 3 Australians are pirates then how did you come up with 53% in your previous blog.

Shame on you. SHAME!!!!

What about when we pay to see/rent a movie and find that the movie itself is either not worth the money that was paid to see it, or not worth the money paid to see it AND a ripoff of a movie that had already been done? Like Tomorrow when the war began being a very long, drawn out and less well down copy of Red Dawn? I want my money back after seen that.

Can you show me the stats on this "53% of the population pirating"?

It's the same argument that the music industry harps on about with the dollar amount of lost sales. I've yet to see unbiased stats to back this argument up.

I paid full price for the collector's edition of the District 9 DVD. I was happy to do so.

I was NOT happy to find TEN separate film trailers, PLUS the ever-insulting "YOU WOULDN'T STEAL A HANDBAG!!!111" spiel. Half of which were un-skippable.

I paid full price, GLADLY, and this was how I was treated.

And you know what was even more insulting? Sitting in the extra-expensive theatre in HOYTS, settling into the leather seats for TRON Legacy...to be greeted by Dan Wyllie's ten-foot-tall ugly mug.

Stop insulting the people who WANT to pay the money, and maybe more people WILL want to pay you.
